A new joint report from RenewableUK and National Grid Ventures examining the opportunity to further strengthen the UK’s leadership position in both offshore wind and subsea electricity interconnectors by enabling, for the first time, the development of a new generation of multi-purpose interconnectors (MPIs).
'Stronger Together: unlocking coordination between UK offshore wind and interconnectors' outlines the blockers to delivering MPIs and sets out recommended actions for industry and policymakers to help unlock their potential.
The report makes seven key recommendations spread across three broad themes – delivery, cost and revenue – which together represent the first steps in creating a roadmap for the UK to deliver its first set of MPI projects. These measures do not require any primary legislative changes, can be executed through existing frameworks, and can deliver up to £13 billion in socioeconomic benefits for consumers.
