RenewableUK unveils massive programme of virtual and live events in 2021

14 January 2021 - RenewableUK press release

RenewableUK has announced a new programme of more than 20 major virtual and live events to be held this year.

A new series of virtual events will focus on key themes for the industry, including maximising the roll-out of new onshore wind projects, the role of ports and vessels in offshore wind, securing power purchase agreements (PPAs), solutions to aviation issues and developing future energy systems with innovative technologies such as renewable hydrogen.

These themes are split up into a series of webinars which will take place between February and September, each covering specific areas so that people can ensure every event is directly relevant to them. For example, the first Onshore Wind Energy webinar in May will focus on digitalisation and innovation, with experts providing insights on how the latest digital technology can improve the way wind farms operate. In June, the topic is attracting green finance for onshore projects, with input from developers and equity investors. The next webinar is on repowering and extending the life of offshore wind farms which have already been operating for 25 years. Covid regulations permitting, RenewableUK will also be hosting a hybrid onshore wind event in November which will include a socially-distanced exhibition and conference at the QEII Centre in London which will be accessible online and in person.

Four Clean Energy Exchange events from February to July are being held jointly with the Solar Trade Association. They will provide market insights and help project owners to find new customers via a virtual matchmaking service for project owners seeking to strike PPAs with companies in the technology, water and transportation industries and the public sector.

The Ports and Vessels webinars from March to July will cover the scaling up of port infrastructure to handle the mega-turbines being installed offshore, now and in the years ahead, and the type of vessels needed to transport them out to sea, as well as highlighting opportunities for supply chain companies in coastal communities.

Four Wind and Aviation events from March to July will examine collaborative solutions to radar issues, harmonising standards for the lighting and marking of turbines, the roles of helicopters, and the use of drones in carrying out inspections.

The webinars covering Future Systems from May to July will focus on the markets for renewable hydrogen and energy storage, and how to build greater flexibility into the grid with innovative technology.

The webinars will be free for RenewableUK members, and will lead up to our main events including Global Offshore Wind 2021 from 29th-30th September at ExCeL London (regulations permitting) which will include over 200 speakers in person and online from more than 50 countries, as well as over 120 exhibitors. This will be RenewableUK’s 19th annual offshore wind conference and we are expecting to welcome over 4,000 attendees to our biggest event of the year.

We will also be holding a dedicated Floating Offshore Wind event with Scottish Renewables on 15th-16th September in Aberdeen. A hybrid event on offshore cables is being planned for November.

RenewableUK’s Executive Director Isabel DiVanna said:

“This is set to be one of our busiest years ever in terms of the number of major events and webinars we’re holding. The programme of webinars will deliver knowledge and insight to the sector, and create opportunities for networking in these challenging times. These will culminate in our hybrid events in the autumn and winter, when we hope to engage our sector and global players face to face, to maximise opportunities especially in the run-up to COP26 and AR4.”

“The expert speakers at all these events will help to provide unique technical and financial insights for companies seeking fresh opportunities in new and existing markets. We’re offering the flexibility of hybrid events where delegates can attend virtually or in person, depending on the progress we make in taking decisive action against the pandemic in the months ahead”.
