RenewableUK announces results of Board election

20 May 2022 - RenewableUK press release

RenewableUK has announced the results of its latest Board election held last month, appointing or reappointing four members to the Board of Directors. The Board supports the trade association by guiding its strategy, setting priorities and ensuring they are delivered.

The four successful candidates are Anne-marie Coyle from GE Renewable Energy (elected for the first time), Roisin Quinn from National Grid (re-elected), Andy Reay from Associated British Ports (re-elected after a short gap) and Kate Turner from ScottishPower Renewables (re-elected).

RenewableUK CEO Dan McGrail said:

“I’m very pleased that Andy, Anne-marie, Kate and Roisin have been successful in this election. Each of them brings a wealth of knowledge and valuable experience to our organisation which will help us to continue to grow successfully by implementing our 5-year plan for expansion”.

“They’re helping to steer the Board at a time when the urgent need to speed up the delivery of low-cost electricity from secure clean sources has never been greater. This will move the UK closer towards energy independence as well as taking practical action at scale on climate change”.

Anne-marie Coyle, GE’s Offshore Wind Sales Director UK, started her renewable energy career as a project developer at Powergen (now e.on) and moved to GE’s renewable energy business in 2004. Whilst working across other generation technologies, Anne-marie has focussed primarily on all aspects of onshore and offshore wind energy. Her career has spanned the development of Scroby Sands from 1998 until more recently where she led the UK launch of the Haliade-X offshore wind turbine technology platform.

She said:

After more than 20 years working in the UK renewable industry in both on and offshore wind, I was compelled to act and to offer my energetic services to support our industry as a RenewableUK Board member.  I’m honoured to have been elected at a time when the drive for growth to deliver our renewable energy targets and domestic supply chain poses both amazing opportunities and unprecedented challenges. In conjunction with the stellar improvements in technology, LCOE and the general economic environment, I believe our industry needs collective realism, practical solutions and meaningful collaboration.”

Roisin Quinn is Director of Customer Connections for National Grid’s Electricity Transmission business. She was formerly Head of National Control for National Grid ESO.

She was also the ESO’s first Chief Engineer. Roisin joined National Grid plc’s graduate programme in 2004. Since then, she has held a number senior leadership roles across the group, including delivery of Government’s Electricity Market Reform Capacity Market, taking up her current position in May 2021. She is also continuing in her role as Vice Chair of RenewableUK’s Board of Directors. She commented:

“I’m delighted to be voted onto the Board of Renewable UK. NGET and RenewableUK are at the forefront of tackling one of the biggest issues facing our society. There are brilliant opportunities to deliver the energy transition in a way that creates green jobs and investment in the UK. Providing a clear voice, expertise and working together with government, industry and society, we can make this happen.”

Andy Reay became ABP’s Head of Offshore Wind in October 2020. Prior to joining ABP, he held roles at A2SEA and the DEME Group and has worked in offshore wind for the past ten years. Andy is a returning member of the RenewableUK Board and is also a member of the Aura Advisory Board established to deliver offshore wind sector development based around the Humber region. He said:

“I am delighted to have been re-elected to the RenewableUK Board after a short gap. Thank you to all those organisations who have supported me. I believe having a broad range of voices on the Board is critical to its success and I hope this will ultimately help us on the journey towards a sustainable UK renewable industry and supply chain. In particular the role of ports over the next thirty years will be critical in achieving the UK’s net zero ambition”.

Kate Turner is Director of ScottishPower Renewables’ Policy and Regulatory Team, responsible for onshore and offshore renewables projects, covering Government energy policy, grid, planning, consenting and aviation matters across the UK and Ireland.  As part of the Iberdrola group, ScottishPower Renewables is one of the UK’s leading renewable energy developers onshore and offshore. She commented:

“I am delighted to rejoin the board of RenewableUK at a time where recent events have elevated the need to rapidly accelerate our transition to renewable energy and a net zero economy. RenewableUK is essential to furthering constructive engagement with policy makers to drive deployment of renewables at pace, promote skills development and to support industry collaboration across all parts of the renewables industry value chain and its membership.”
