Clean Energy Jobs Plan creates new opportunities for careers in renewables throughout the UK
19 October 2025 - RenewableUK press release
Commenting on the launch of the Government’s Clean Energy Jobs Plan today (Sunday 19 October), RenewableUK’s Deputy Chief Executive Jane Cooper said:
“The Clean Energy Jobs Plan sets out the scale of the massive opportunity which the UK has to create tens of thousands of new jobs in renewables all over the country. It includes practical measures which will enable Government and industry to work even closer together to maximise this, such as opening new Technical Excellence Colleges, building on Britain’s current success as a global leader in clean power. This long-awaited plan delivers on employers’ calls for a coherent Government workforce strategy for clean energy and we look forward to working with Ministers to realise its ambitions.
“The wind industry alone already supports 55,000 jobs throughout the UK and this is set to grow to over 110,000 by 2030. To fill these posts, clean energy companies are offering apprenticeships to young people from a diverse range of backgrounds to become wind turbine technicians and recruiting graduates to design wind farms. We’re reaching out to other industries like oil and gas to attract workers into the clean energy sector, as they have valuable experience to offer. Renewable power companies are also proactively recruiting former members of the armed forces, as they too have excellent transferable skills to bring to the innovative industries we represent. Most of these jobs are in places outside London and the south east – they’re in Grimsby, Hartlepool, Hull, Lowestoft, the Moray Firth, across south Wales and in Belfast to name just a few, creating fresh opportunities in communities which need economic regeneration. The Clean Energy Jobs Plan will enable Government and industry to accelerate this transformative work, ensuring we continue to provide high quality jobs with good terms and conditions in our rapidly expanding sector”.
