Announcements made: a recap
RenewableUK’s events mark a key point in the calendar for industry updates to be shared. This year’s Global Offshore Wind was no exception, with research disseminated by both RenewableUK and the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) on the project pipeline, skills and supply chain, all of which will help provide the clarity needed for the sector to take its next steps. Meanwhile, the wider sector chose the days around Global to launch some exciting and welcome initiatives for our industry.
On Monday 16 June, in a prelude to the event, our latest EnergyPulse Global Offshore Wind pipeline report revealed insights into the worldwide state of play, forecasting up to 244GW of offshore wind capacity globally by the end of the decade.
- On day one, our wind industry skills intelligence report was published, modelling and forecasting the total number of jobs in the whole wind sector now and into the future. We found that 55,000 people currently work across both offshore and onshore wind, and both sectors combined will need over 100,000 jobs to support 2030 targets.
- Also on day one, we launched the offshore wind supply chain investment guide, offering companies looking to invest in UK offshore wind a detailed overview of the opportunities and support schemes available, alongside numerous case studies.
- On day two, a £1 billion public-private investment fund was launched to support offshore wind supply chain investment, with contributions from Great British Energy, The Crown Estate and offshore wind developers.
- And only a few days later...
- The Crown Estate announced two new sites for building floating wind farms in the Celtic Sea on 19 June, unlocking 4.5GW with Equinor and Gwynt Glas as the preferred bidders
- The UK Government launched its industrial strategy on 23 June, with a dedicated sector plan for clean energy industries and a strong focus on manufacturing
We recognise our missions to reach 2030 goals are challenging, but by coming together and sharing critical updates, the road ahead becomes clearer.

The NextGen network launch
This year’s Global Offshore Wind saw the launch of our NextGen Network as a place to support newcomers on their journey into renewables; either those transitioning to the industry at the start of their careers, or rejoining after a career break. Our launch event took place on the 16 June in London, hosted by Waves Group, and was a chance for those new to the industry to meet likeminded individuals. The newcomer’s breakfast side event at Global Offshore Wind also offered an opportunity for the network to meet the RenewableUK Shadow Board face-to-face and ask questions about getting ahead.
If you’re new to the renewables industry or joining after a career break and are employed by a RenewableUK member organisation, you can sign up here!
The Mission Portal
At Global Offshore Wind 2025 we didn’t just talk about clean energy—we also showcased some of the voices behind it. The Mission: Portal at the RenewableUK stand was an interactive space to share personal missions and reflections. Although the event is over, the many missions for clean energy live on. You can see what people said or write your own mission on the portal here.
