Bringing down Offshore Wind Costs
As the UK delivers its offshore wind programme it is important that cost savings are delivered, to protect UK consumers and help secure the UK’s position as a global expert in offshore wind.
The industry has a target of cutting costs by 30% by 2020; cementing its future in the UK and providing UK companies with a stable base from which to sell expertise and products to other offshore markets around the globe.
Government and industry have been working together through the Offshore Wind Programme Board since 2012, taking forward the recommendations of the Offshore Wind Cost Reduction Taskforce.
The Programme Board divides cost reduction efforts into areas such as supply chain, skills and grid. RenewableUK links this work to that of our parallel strategy groups, where members work together to look at shared challenges in our sector.
For example, the OWPB and RenewableUK will be working together to develop two Communities of Practice on eliminating project losses; involving both supply chain and development teams.
