RenewableUK is highlighting today’s announcement by MHI Vestas Offshore Wind that it is opening a new plant at Fawley in Hampshire - on the site of a decommissioned oil-fired power station.

The company is already manufacturing state-of-the-art 80-metre offshore wind turbine blades at its factory on the Isle of Wight. The blades will be painted and stored at the new facility which will open in April 2018, creating up to 50 jobs, bringing MHI Vestas UK workforce total to 600.

RenewableUK’s Chief Executive Hugh McNeal, said: ““Building a new state-of-the art offshore wind facility on the site of a former oil-fired power station is a powerful symbol of the UK’s transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. This is the latest example of innovative companies like MHI Vestas Offshore Wind ensuring that Britain reaps the economic benefits of offshore wind, maintaining the UK’s global lead in this technology. New facilities like this are rejuvenating communities across the country, creating skilled jobs and attracting much-needed investment as the UK looks to find new global markets."
