RenewableUK is responding to the release of a report from WindEurope covering investment in offshore wind for the first half of 2016. The report highlights that the UK attracted the lion’s share of investment over the first six months of the year, with UK projects reaching Final Investment Decision (FID) worth €10.369bn (roughly £8.69bn), out of a total in Europe of €14.018 (roughly £11.74bn) . This means that three-quarters of all Europe’s investment in offshore wind is flowing through the UK.
RenewableUK’s Deputy Chief Executive Maf Smith, said:
“Offshore wind has been a real success story for the UK, and these latest figures are further evidence of this – investment in these UK infrastructure projects so far this year will be worth over £8.5bn.
Overall more than £20bn is being invested in UK offshore wind energy in the next five years. Throughout the country offshore wind is creating jobs and revitalising coastal areas”.
